Bruce Museum - Greenwich CT - Grand Reopening

Exciting news for art and science lovers! After years of hard work and expansion, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich CT is finally reopening its doors to the public on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 12:00-5:00 PM.

With a three-story, 43,000-square-foot addition, the museum has more than doubled in size, providing visitors with an even greater opportunity to appreciate and learn about the arts and sciences.

The expansion project has resulted in new state-of-the-art exhibition galleries and community and education spaces, making it easier for visitors of all ages to explore the museum’s collections and exhibits. Additionally, the museum now boasts a new auditorium and restaurant, offering even more options for visitors to enjoy their time at the Bruce.

To celebrate the grand reopening, the museum is offering free admission for the day, giving everyone the chance to experience the new and improved Bruce Museum. The entire ground floor of the museum will be open to the public and it even features a brand new museum store, stocked with unusual gifts, one-of-a-kind jewelry, accessories, fun and educational toys, rocks, minerals, fossils, stationery, exhibition catalogs, and more. Visitors can also relax and enjoy a meal or drink at the inviting café, which offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

Join Bruce Museum to celebrate the expanded Science Wing, and the William L. Richter Art Wing with eight significant exhibitions, including:

  • Lois Dodd: Natural Order, the largest survey of Dodd to date featuring nearly 80 works spanning the artist’s career;
  • Penguins! Past and Present showcasing the story of the most remarkable birds on earth;
  • Then Is Now: Contemporary Black Art in America which explores how Black artists critically engage with the past and present and includes works by Hank Willis Thomas, Emma Amos, and Kehinde Wiley, among others;
  • The William L. Richter Collection, which celebrates the extraordinary collection of Greenwich resident William L. Richter and features works by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Camille Pissarro, Paul Gauguin, Pablo Picasso, and Henri Matisse.

In addition to the expanded space and amenities, the Bruce Museum is also offering new programming for families and adults, making it easier than ever to learn about and appreciate the arts and sciences.
