The day kicked off bright and early, with registration opening at 6:30 am. Participants eagerly prepared themselves for the challenges ahead. The rolling swim start began at 8:05 am, with waves of swimmers diving into the beautiful waters of Long Island Sound. Cheers and applause filled the air as each swimmer made their way through the open water, pushing their limits for a worthy cause.
The Swim Across America – Fairfield County Open Water Swim offered various swim options to cater to every participant’s preference. From a leisurely half-mile swim to a challenging 1.5-mile distance, and even an ambitious 3-mile journey, there was a swim for everyone. Those unable to attend the physical event still had the opportunity to contribute through the SAA My Way virtual swim option, ensuring inclusivity and community participation in the fight against cancer.
“What an incredible 17th annual SWIM ACROSS AMERICA FAIRFIELD COUNTY open water swim,” states Swim Across America Fairfield County on their Facebook account. “We didn’t let a few rain sprinkles get in the way of making waves to fight cancer – and we made those waves in the amount of $329,588 and still growing for our wonderful beneficiary Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy!!”
The event’s primary beneficiary, the Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy (ACGT), has been making significant strides in cancer research in Fairfield County since Swim Across America – Greenwich-Stamford’s establishment in 2007.
